The Florentine Green lampshade is made using decorative paper produced in Italy, lined with ivory card, and finished with a dark brown trim. The design of this decorative paper is by Carta Varese, whose patterns have their origins in Renaissance Italy and traditional Italian woodblock-printed papers. Today, they are offset printed in Florence.
The printing process is fairly intricate. Both double-sided and multi-coloured papers are produced using a single-colour press, with each colour applied individually—a technique similar to silk-screen printing. This approach creates rich, vibrant colours, even though the final result is offset printed.
These high-quality papers are versatile and well suited to many uses, including gift wrap, bookbinding (covers and endpapers), box making, origami, furniture and doll’s house lining, as well as collage and card-making projects. The base paper is an uncoated, smooth ivory wove, and it is acid-free.
The lampshades are designed to fit E27 and B22 lamp fittings and are recommended to be used with LED light bulbs only.
To prevent colour fading, it is important to keep them away from direct sunlight.
All my lampshades are meticulously crafted by hand and produced upon order in my Kent-based studio. I occasionally have a limited supply of pre-made lampshades in various sizes, which will be indicated in the dropdown menu for sizes.
